Tips for Digestive Fitness
Drink at least two litres of fluids a day (including water, fruit or herbal teas and a small quantity of fruit juice). Sugary drinks and too many caffeinated drinks, such as coffee, tea and caffeine - supplemented soft drinks should be avoided.
Eat more fibre: your digestive system loves it! Fibre helps to bind undigested food and bacteria together, making it a whole lot easier to pass from your body.
Avoid the usual suspects such as sugary snacks, crisps and processed foods; they tend to lack the fibre and a plentiful supply of nutrients your body craves.
Eat more fresh fruit and veg; they’ll help flush out your digestive system, keeping you regular, as well as providing valuable nutrients.
Exercise regularly; it’ll not only improve your overall fitness but will help your digestive system stay fit and healthy.
Breathe deeply; stress is a major digestive antagonist. Activities that concentrate on breathing, such as yoga, can help. By performing deep breathing exercises you can inhale more oxygen which helps to speed up the digestive process.
